Ice-T emerged from the Los Angeles underground in the early 1980s, drawing heavily from the street literature of Iceberg Slim and early hip-hop to craft raw, gritty portrayals of inner-city life. His 1986 track '6 in the Mornin'' and 1987 album 'Rhyme Pays' are considered foundation stones of West Coast gangsta rap. Later crossing over into heavy metal as the frontman of Body Count, he pushed the boundaries of musical censorship and genre fusion, remaining an enduring icon across hip-hop, metal, and television.
